If you applied for one of the 200 Veterinary Field Assistant posts, you're probably checking the department website every other day. Here's where things stand.

Applications for the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Assam closed on 23 September 2026. The written test date and venue have not been announced yet. The official advertisement says both "shall be notified in due course", and that eligible candidates will download their admit cards "as and when notified", after the applications have been checked.

So if a WhatsApp forward tells you the admit card is out, check the official website before you believe it.

Where the admit card will come from

Only one place matters: animalhusbandry.assam.gov.in. That's where you applied, and it's where the department will post the exam date, venues and the admit card link. The list of selected candidates will also go up there and on the notice board of the Directorate at Chenikuthi, Guwahati.

When the link goes live, you'll log in with the details you used to apply. Keep your registration number or application slip somewhere you can find it.

What the exam looks like

The advertisement sets out the pattern clearly, so you can prepare now rather than wait for the date:

  • An OMR-based written test, 120 minutes long.
  • 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, at Class 12 (HSSLC Science) level.
  • Biology carries 40 marks, Chemistry 20, Physics 20 and General Awareness 20.

Biology is the heaviest part, so it's worth most of your time. For General Awareness, focus on Assam: districts, rivers, the state's schemes, and recent news about agriculture and livestock.

After the exam: a year of training

This isn't a straight join-and-start post. Selected candidates must complete a one-year training course at the School of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Ghungoor, Silchar, or one of its extended campuses, and pass it before they're appointed. Candidates get three chances to clear the training exams, and must sign a bond before the course begins.

Keep these ready

  • Your HSLC admit card or pass certificate as age proof. The advertisement accepts nothing else for date of birth.
  • Your Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates.
  • Your Permanent Residence Certificate (for educational purposes).
  • Caste and PwBD certificates if you applied under those categories.
  • A valid Employment Exchange registration card.

You'll most likely need originals at document verification, so don't leave them at a relative's house in another district.

The 200 posts

Of the 200 posts, 112 are open category, 73 are for OBC/MOBC (two of these are for Tea Tribes), 5 for SC and 10 for ST (Plains). There are no ST (Hills) posts this time. Sixty posts across the categories are reserved for women, and 8 are kept for persons with benchmark disabilities.

Bookmark the department website and check it every couple of days. When the date comes out, you'll want every remaining day for revision.
